About a month ago now our Intern, Carolina showed me a bunch of Tik Toks about the Denim Maxi Skirt trend thats so popular right now, as well as the huge push for them to be a vintage pair that was maybe a bit rough for wear to give them a new life.
So she was stoked, and then I was seeing them everywhere. You know...it's been a very slow start to 2023, and to be super transparent we haven't been able to get very much new product in. So all of this inspired me to create our first Les Sól collection, with Carolina's help to launch the project by our Lake and Irving Market on March 25th. I was so excited, at this point I haven't designed or really created anything in so long. Which is what I went to school for, apparel design. I have been itching to get creative and use my hands again.
At that point we had two full weeks to create them. Our goal at first was to just launch 10, but 10 turned into 13 which turned into 15, then shortly after we landed on 18 vintage up-cycled skirts. We started our hunt for the denim from some thrift stores around the cities, but ended up getting most of our denim from Legacy Vintage, our neighbors! Which by the way...if you are in need for some good denim Legacy has you covered. They have such a huge range of sizes and styles! Highly recommend.
Carolina and I met daily at that point to rip apart the seams, iron, tear apart the pairs that really needed new life, add them as panels and pin them all in place and then sew them all! It was far more grueling than we expected, but we managed to do it. Some pairs are more intricate then others, we wanted to have some simple straight on styles, then some embellished with embroidery (my other new hobby, which our girl Carlie also helped with!), and others had added panels for volume and drape!
I am so happy with how our first collection turned out, and I hope it inspires you to up-cycle something you love, or rock one of these maxi's.
Stay tuned because this is just the start!
